ABOUT US
Founded by Marnie Telling, Devon Valley Wildlife Shelter is a haven for Gippsland’s injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife. From the rolling hills to the rugged coastlines, our shelter operates wherever we are needed, providing critical care to animals in distress. Whether it’s a wombat found wandering alone after bushfires, a pelican tangled in fishing line, or a tiny possum joey clinging to survival, we are there—rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving them a second chance at life.
Our work extends far beyond our shelter’s walls. We travel across the region, responding to wildlife emergencies wherever they arise. Partnering with veterinarians and wildlife specialists from all corners of Gippsland, we ensure every animal receives expert care, from complex surgeries to round-the-clock feeding for orphaned joeys. This network of dedicated professionals, volunteers, and supporters makes it possible to treat and release countless animals back into their natural habitats.
But our mission doesn’t stop at rescue and rehabilitation. We believe in the power of education and community action. By working closely with local schools, community groups, and wildlife enthusiasts, we teach people how to coexist with and protect Australia’s unique fauna. Simple actions—such as reducing vehicle speed in wildlife zones, securing backyard pets, or supporting habitat restoration—can make a profound difference in the survival of native species.
At Devon Valley Wildlife Shelter, every rescue is a story of resilience, and every supporter becomes part of that journey. With the help of our community, we can continue to protect Gippsland’s wildlife, ensuring that future generations can experience the beauty and wonder of these incredible creatures in the wild where they belong.
